When the Baker and his Wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the spell. Encountering Cinderella, Jack, Little Red Ridinghood, and a cast of familiar fairy tale characters along the way, the two soon learn that even when everyone’s wish is granted, the consequences of their actions may return to haunt them.   

Auditions will be held at:

Sunday, October 22, 1-4pm

Click here for audition materials. Please prepare the song/sides for the role you are most interested in, and be prepared to indicate other roles of interest on your audition form. Those interested only in ensemble may prepare the sides of their choosing. Bring your book with you as well, as you may be asked for something contrasting. The production team may call you back for a different role than what you indicate. All auditioning should bring a headshot or current photo, a resume or list of previous experience, and be prepared to list all conflicts from November 1st – January 14th. Audition forms will be available shortly.

Participation in this production requires 2017-2018 dues ($50 personal/$75 family). Pay online at or via cash/check in person at auditions. Ticket sales and work hours will also be required for all cast members. More details will be available at auditions. 


Please note that some of the roles listen below are traditionally played by the same actor. The creative team will determine casting of doubled roles based on auditions. VLOG is also seeking a flexible number of actors for an ensemble.

An intellectual and pleasant story-teller who helps to orchestrate the show and illustrate lessons to the audience.
Vocal range: Baritone  – generally speaking role

A young, earnest maiden who is constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters.
Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range:  Contemporary Broadway soprano with chest

The feckless Giant killer who is ‘almost a man.’ He is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed.
Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range: Contemporary Broadway Tenor

Jack’s Mother
Browbeating and weary, Jack’s protective mother who is independent, bold, and strong-willed.
Age: 50 to 65
Vocal range : Mezzo

The Baker
A harried and insecure baker who is simple and loving, yet protective of his family. He wants his wife to be happy and is willing to do anything to ensure her happiness but refuses to let others fight his battles.
Age: 35 to 45
Vocal range: Baritone/Tenor

The Baker’s Wife
A determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother. She leads a simple, yet satisfying life and is very low-maintenance yet proactive in her endeavors.
Age: 35 to 45
Vocal range: Mezzo/Belt

Cinderella’s Stepmother
The mean-spirited, demanding stepmother of Cinderella.
Age: 40 to 50
Vocal range:  Soprano/Mezzo (legit)

Florinda And Lucinda
Cinderella’s stepsisters who are black of heart. They follow in their mother’s footsteps of abusing Cinderella.
Age: 25 to 35
Vocal range: Soprano/Mezzo

Little Red Ridinghood
A spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted, fearless, yet youthful and naive.
Age: 15 to 20
Vocal range: contemporary Broadway mezzo, with easy top

The Witch
The sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel who is straightforward and aggressive.
Age: 45 to 55
Vocal range: Mezzo/belt, with easy top

Cinderella’s Mother
A deceased with her soul guarding and aiding her daughter from a tree.
Age: 40 to 55
Vocal range: Soprano

Mysterious Man
A mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler. He is a good-natured protector and observer.
Age: 50 to 65
Vocal range: Baritone

A hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading and captivating his prey.
Age: 30 to 35
Vocal range: Baritone

A loopy-but-lovely maiden who is sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely. She yearns to experience the world.
Age: 20 to 30
Vocal range: Soprano with chest

Cinderella’s Prince
Vain and gorgeous, he is a disloyal lover who is currently searching for the next new, exciting thing.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Baritone/Tenor

Rapunzel’s Prince
Just as vain and gorgeous as his Prince-brother, he is always chasing the newest, most exiting endeavor.
Age: 30 to 40
Vocal range: Baritone/Tenor

Voiceover. The Giant’s wife is an angry and vengeful ‘monster.’ She is seeking restitution for her loss.



About the production team:


Jeremiah Murphy is a writer/director working in theater, film, and television. This is his second VLOG show. Theater: All This Here (VLOG); Mattawamakeag (The Drilling Company/Murphy Brothers Productions); Troubles (International Fringe Festival). Television: Roman Empire, Netflix; American Playboy, Amazon. Film: About a dozen short films you’ve never heard of.

James Higgins is a music director, orchestrator, and pianist in NYC. He has just finished a successful run in the Off-Broadway hit, Me The People. He is overjoyed to return to VLOG for his 6th show!  Pre B’way: Jeanne La Pucelle (d. Ben Watts is an Ohio native and graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Previous performing credits include the National Tour of AFT’s A Christmas Carol (Bob Cratchit), The Carnegie Theatre’s Grease (Roger/Dance Captain), Revision Theatre’s Hello, Dolly! (Ensemble/Barnaby u/s), and VLOG’s Carousel (Enoch Snow Jr./Dance Captain) and most recently Curtains (Randy Dexter).  Choreography credits include Li’l Abner and The Wizard of Oz.

Valerie Caniglia is happy to be back with VLOG after stage managing Urinetown last season.  NYC Credits include: The Suitcase Under the Bed (Mint Theater Company), Once Upon a Mattress (Transport Group), Errol and Fidel (New York Music Festival) as well as having directed various cabarets throughout Manhattan.  Other credits include Blueprints to Freedom (La Jolla Playhouse), Bubble Boy (American Theater Group), A Chorus Line (Surflight Theatre) and  Dog Sees God (Hemlock Theater Company; asst. director). Valerie is a New Jersey native and a Wagner College graduate.
